About Libyan Airlines

Libyan Airlines commenced operations in 1964 as Kingdom of Libya Airlines and throughout the years has operated under many different names. As of 2019 Libyan Airlines still operates as the national flag carrier of Libya (IATA Code: LA) and they have their headquarters and main operations based at Tripoli International Airport (IATA: TIP). Due to the civil war in Libya in 2014 where Tripoli International Airport sustained substantial damage majority of the services have been transferred to Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli. On 31st July 2007 Libyan Airlines became a subsidiary of the state-owned Libyan Afriqiyah Aviation Holding Company which owns and operates Afriqiyah Airways. Both airlines have codeshare flights with one another and co-operate on ground operations however they are run as two separate companies. Currently, they have a fleet of 6 Airbus A320-200 series and offer both business and economy class cabins. In addition, they also operate two Bombardier CRJ900LR. They are awaiting delivery of an additional 6 Airbus A350-900 which have been or order with Airbus since 2014. Libyan Airlines currently flies to a number of domestic cities and international destinations in France, Russia, Tunisia and Egypt. Benina International Airport is a second focus city in Libyan Airlines.
